We have been doing some renovation work on our kitchen.
We have a new electric oven and a new induction hob.
Both are 6mm wired and share the same junction box via a 32amp mcb.....
The oven is 3200w or 16amp.
The hob is 2.3kw -3.2kw.

Both are connected to a 45amp dual conection plate that 6mm wire runs up into the ceiling and then into a 30amp round junction box that the original oven was wired to...
When i turned on the 32amp fuse the system tripped......

Would the hob and the oven require seperate circuits to work.....

What exactly tripped, was it the 32A MCB, or an RCD?

Both appliances should be fine connected to a 32A cooker circuit due to the 'diversity' principle - although having a 30A junction box in the circuit isn't ideal.

The most important issue though is the trip - presumably you just switched on the circuit after wiring in the appliances?
If the MCB tripped without turning the appliances on, your issue is with the wiring up!

The rcd tripped when i flicked up the mcb.
I believe that the 6mm wiring from the CU 32amp up into the kitchen ceiling to junction box, then 6mm wiring feeds the 45amp dual connection plate.
The hob is wired with 6mm to the connection plate, then 6mm wire runs from the first connection plate feeds into a 2nd dual connection plate and the oven takes its supply from that...
I will try and get photos later.....

This morning i removed the hob wiring as you can see in the short video to see if the oven is tripping the RCD.....
Then if not i will try the hob without the oven wired...

The oven tripped out so i unwired the oven and wired the hob and the hob works.

I have a spare 20MCB in the CU doing nothing....
Should i wire the oven separately in to this.....!

Just found the paperwork that came with the oven and the cable should be H05vv-f 4 core.....
The fitters used 6mm 3 core now I know that this is wrong.
I have looked up the cable and is 4mm but cannot find H05VV-F....

This has nothing to do with the oven and hob being wired together, or separately. This isn't an overload issue - the oven hasn't even been turned on, with a significant load.

If the RCD is tripping, then there is likely a current leakage path to earth, leading to an imbalance of the current flowing between L and N, in that circuit.

As the RCD trips, as soon as you flip the 32A MCB, this suggests that either the oven, or cable is faulty, or the connections are incorrect.

There is also the slight possibility that having come from a cold warehouse, into a warm home, there may be some earth leakage due to condensation; this combines with other devices leakage on the same RCD, causing a trip.
But this would be rare for a new oven.

4 core cable would be unusual, what is the make/model of the oven and can you post any photos of the cable connection to the oven terminals.

Again, forget about cable sizing - this isn't an overload issue.

That is what the booklet shows about wiring....

You only need a flex with an earth, live and neutral, see

Please show us the connections at the appliances

Have you got some green and yellow sleeving?

Although a T&E is often used, without consequence!

But yes, that's why I asked..
can you post any photos of the cable connection to the oven terminals.
If the electricians were confronted with multiple terminals, when they attempted to connect the 6mm cable (!), they may have chosen incorrectly, or trapped an oversized cable.

...and I haven't yet found specific wiring instructions in any UK manuals.

I am confused. Your youtube video shows a junction box with a cable in and a cable out. However, it only has 2 ports for the earth (in and out). Reading your post, it reads like the "out" runs to the hob, and perhaps, I have the wrong end of the stick, but you are wiring the oven to the junction box in the video. What are you connecting the earth to?

Sorry if I am having a senior moment.
