I hope you can eventually get me to the solution here. The pressure gauge on my combi boiler (Vaillant ecoTEC plus 831) was low so I let the water flow into the boiler (taps for this was behind a cupboard near the bolier). But the gauge went up very fast and when I closed the tap the gauge indicator went up to the red area.

Can anyone advise how to let the pressure out so that the pressure gauge is back well within the black area?

Easier even, catch some water from a bleeding nipple; you probably only need about a glass full to come out

thank you I will try this. The heating has had to come back on so I guess its safer to do this when its been off a while in case the water is too hot.

Each of the ch isolating valves under the boiler has its own drain off on them.

Put a bowl under one and use a 7mm spanner to undo the head on the drain cock.
