So when the gutter is flat you'll have pooling water between the welds.

I would sooner have SS or Galv on felt in one piece. Although I would still go for the floating lead.

Xenon- you sound like a politician........

Roofer- I've seen these in lead but I don't think they're available in copper, zinc and stainless steel which is why we make caps for the hard metals.
