Hi all I am new home owner (parents had tiled garden) so very new to the world of grass/turf and garden maintenance

the neighbour is kind enough to cut my grass for me, which is great as I don’t own a lawn mower etc

Attached are pics of the grass - 1 from when it was cut a month ago and another 2 pics from today.

we’ve had fair bit of rain lately which is great as I don’t water it. so the water has helped make it “greener”

what I would really appreciate please is some advice on how to make it look nice and green and less weeds/clover/dry/muddy parts etc etc

my neighbour will cut every month he said which is nice. But what can I put on top? He doesn’t do much other than cut he said

I’ve heard miracle grown and lawn and feed can help? But any experts out there with advise pls give any tips :)

Not the answer you're looking for but...if I wanted to see my lawn looking like Wembley - I'd be looking for some special kind of finely textured green glasses ;)

I looked @ different weed/feed granules - a lot say that discoloured residue can tread about ! Miracle grow seems to make anything grow. The weeds want spot weeding or digging out with a special tool . The only thing I'm expert in the garden is cinquefoil weeds - horrible things with massive tap roots and runners:evil:

Lawn and feed - the box suggests it can make green and kill weeds - but always good if someone can vouch / has had similar quality grass to mine and made it perfecto

A month between cuts at this time of year is too long as it starts to get seed stalks, it needs more regular cutting especially if you feed it.

your lawn has been neglected.

It needs some selective weedkiller to get rid of the perennial weeds

It looks like it has some moss -get some copper sulphate
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Iron-Sul...598172?hash=item5d8aadb41c:g:nckAAOSwTF1dSo5n

You can also use this as a lawn tonic to green up the lawn

the lawn looks to have a lot of thatch -you need to kill it with moss killer (if it has moss), then rake up the thatch

If its a small lawn then you might want to do some lawn aerating after thatching

and finally give it a summer feed

ideally you want to be mowing at least once a week -once a month will stress the grass.

Thanks so much for the advice! As a complete newbie I find it very overwhelming - was hoping there would be a easy fix like miracle grow or lawn and feed as it claims to do 4 things in 1....etc

once A week I defo need own lawn mower and more time lol. Neighbour does it as a favour once a month. It was actually left all of September til March as nobody went in the garden!

but I guess you can’t get it looking like Wembley without effort!!

Thanks very much for the advice however

I’m also getting quotes for fake grass Atleast there will be no maintainenance!

If you have the cash, pay someone to cut it, or maybe look at a small robotic mower?

Most grass wants cut every 1-2 weeks, maybe 3 if it's a slow growing patch

Is that all year round 1-2 weeks????

I think people are assuming a basic understanding of lawns which you don't have. No shame in that, I grew up in flats and knew nothing about gardening until we bought our first house.

Rather than asking for bits & pieces of advice, it would probably be worth you reading something more systematic like the articles at https://www.lawnsmith.co.uk/topics.

For a perfect looking lawn all year round that needs little maintenance ... artificial grass.

Otherwise, you have to work hard to maintain it. Probably a grass specialist round your way - they tend to come in once a fortnight to treat and cut etc. Someone like this https://www.greenthumb.co.uk/branch/london

I know someone with a fake lawn who has to hoover it regularly!
