Evening all.

My sons bedroom is exactly 6ft wide. I want to run a wooden beam from wall to the other, across the entire 6ft width of the bedroom, in order to make a floating bed shelf for him. The other 3 sides will be screwed to the wall. This beam will need to support the slats of the bed.

What would be the best way to fix this beam to the wall at either end, and keep it a neat looking job?

I did the same thing in my parents house when i was living at home. I had a vertical floating timber "leg" on each wall, that was screwed into the wall, and then i screwed the beam to this. However from memory i had an issue with the wood on wood squeaking.

Is there a better way to do it? A masonry joist hanger is out as you will see the hanger bolted to the wall, and i cant sink the joist into the wall.

Is there a way im not thinking of?

Thanks

Rawlbolt an horizontal timber to the wall, for your beam to rest on, with a tenon. Squeeking will be a result, of your beam bowing under the changing loading - if it is of adequate size, it will not bow, or squeek.
