All the postings on this forum would seem to agree that ventilating an unused chimney to prevent condensation/damp is a good thing, perhaps using a small vent at the bottom and a coweled pot at the top.
However, how can you do this if your chimney is being used and has a liner (see handy diagram at end of article http://www.stovesonline.co.uk/lining_a_chimney.html ). My chimney has a similar registration plate at the bottom and closing plate at the top thoroughly sealing it. Surely the part of the chimney outside the liner but inside the chimney brickwork is now just as unventilated as one that is completely unused and sealed top & bottom.
Thoughts/ideas ?
