Humming Noise

Not that I am aware of. The acoustics guy seems to be of the opinion that it is electrical from within the house, waiting for him to come up with a plan of action to trace it at present.

Will let you know if we ever find the source - its quite disturbing to see how many humming houses that are out there on the internet that have never found the source!

Its almost a year on and I am wondering what progress has been made or have you just learnt to live with it?

Hi

No unfortunately we have still not located the source of the noise. The acoustic guy has visited a few times and taken recordings, although a noise was located on one of the recordings they cannot distinguish what the noise is. Due to the expense we are having to live with it for the time being.

Will let you know if we ever trace the source.

Did the acoustic guy actually HEAR the noise himself?

What was his view about it?

I have a low frequency humming / vibration going through my semi-detached house constantly day and night, turn off water, electric and gas and the humming is still there. It sounds like a fridge. The neighbours say the have nothing electrical against or near the adjoining wall. The noise can`t be heard outside in the loft or under the floor either. It kinda just fills the house but has no apparent source!

I`m going mad, can`t sleep.

What could it possibly be? Any ideas :)

1. No hijacking please.
2. This is a plumbing and heating forum, not for advice on expelling poltergeists.

If you don't have enough brains to understand the forum rules, you are unlikely to make much sense out of any answers, so you are just wasting everybody's time.

I have had the exact same problem and just tracked it down.
low level humming sound like a fridge (but not the fridge).
could hear it in the middle of the night.
Turned off the main breaker at the fuse box, no change.
however, the electricity meter is obviously still energised, and when i touched the meter it was vibrating. The meter is screwed on to a plywood board that is screwed on to the wall, which amplifies this sound.
So even when your not consuming any power the meter is still "humming".
I have wedged a bit of rubber against it to try and dampen it down while i find out how much the power company want for a replacement.
Dont mock - this is a pest of a noise - let me know if it helps anyone else out.

I had the same problem in my house constant whining screeching moaning sound between the hours of 6,30 in the morning and 11,00 at night finally traced it down to the wife, bit of gaffa tape over the mouth solved it !! Peace at last.

Still have this humming problem 24 hours a day. 7 days a week.

Water board, Elec board, Plumber, Council, Enironmental Health have all been out and can`t find what the problem is. Nobody else in the street seems to be affected.

The whole house hums / vibrates, even with all the services turned off.

Anyone have any sensible ideas? Thanks :)
