I need a man that can.....

I was about to post the same thing.
Flue should be 300mm from window shouldnt it?
Nice neat pipework too :(
Oh dear.
If the gas pipe size has been noted by a Vaillant engineer it will invalidate the warranty if not rectified

I did a nice long reply but it seems to have got lost....

I'll make this one brief...

Yes the window is an opening one. But the flue has some kind of kit bit that diverts the vapour away - although it still comes through a bathroom window that's on the return wall . It shouldn't be a problem though should it ?

We did get the Blue Cert but the guy that actually installed the boiler has left the company and they have put someone elses name on it although he does work for them. ( I checked with CORGI.. ;) )

CORGI guy is coming this Wednesday (5th Nov) I got the date wrong and thought it was last week

On Friday morning at 8 am the installer arrived ( he said he was going to change the gas pipe although no one had pre-arranged it with me and I wasn't able to take the day off work, I asked him to get his office to ring me to arrange a different day. They haven't rung me yet. I think they might want to change it before Wednesday ;)

I'd like to ask a question if I may.....

The overflow pipe is dripping constantly and sometimes it's a little more than dripping..is there anything I can do to stop it because I'm concerned now about it freezing and causing some damage in my loft ?

Just trying to be sure of what you have said. Was the original chap registered with corgi at the time he installed it, or have they now put someone elses name on it because the original chap wasn't registered with corgi.

It sounds like they are trying to back track, wait for the corgi outcome before letting them back in.

I did contact CORGI and they are sending someone this Wednesday at 1.30 !! they have requested someone from the installation company to be present (I might have to ask my hubby to stay home from work as I'm not sure what to expect if the CORGI guy leaves first - the installer might be very angry  )

Ha, ha, ha, Don`t bother with Corgi, they are a complete waste of time. The idiot from Corgi who may or may not turn up on time will be completely clueless about installations anyway, that`s why they will not exist pretty soon, thankfully.

Surely if you let them rectify the situation, the outcome will be the same for the customer.

An installation that will be of an acceptable standard. If you stop the installer coming back then this will drag on for ages, there is no reason to do so other than retribution.

I don't agree with the CORGI inspectors being 'clueless', in the main I have found then to be pragmatic and fair.

Which is more than Bamber G comes across on this forum, although he does make me laugh.....

I used an Installer that I found through the Corgi website.

It's a very long story, but eventually, I had Vaillant send an Engineer to 'inspect' the installation. Several things he picked up on -
The 'flow and return pipes' were the wrong way round
Compression fittings should have been used to connect the pipework not soldered fittings
The gas inlet pressure only 15mbar when boiler operates at max recorded 20mbar at meter gas supply pipe restricted/undersized...

It is probably easier to just let the firm come back and rectify the problems and move on, that's just how some firms like to operate. They can carry on like this all the time. In this case MNY has done everything that this forum advises, get a corgi in, which she did. His work, going by the description given, is pretty poor and she has pulled them up on it and asked corgi to get involved. Why should she now make life easy for this firm, when she has been messed about, having no doubt, taken time of work etc.

Good on you and I hope all gets resolved in your favour.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

Corgi man did indeed arrive (early) but although he requested the Installers to be present, they didn't send anyone. He contacted them and they explained that they hadn't been able to send anyone due to being short staffed

CORGI guy was here for just over 1.5 hours. He was very thorough and checked everything. He did pick up on a couple of things that the Vaillant guy missed. The gas pipe is undersized and is also too near from an electrical socket so it needs to be 'sleeved'. The drain 'thingy' from the boiler that runs outside should be run to a drain and not just terminating over the path because the stuff that comes out of it is slightly acidic :?:

From his personal view point. he's not happy about the electical wiring for the boiler. He said it has nothing to do with him but he wants me to get it changed because he says it's unsafe ! It actually runs down the wall next to the boiler and enters the boiler from the front. We can't put the bottom (plastic grill thing..) of the boiler on because of it and it has to be moved out of the way to open the drop down door.

He will send a report on his findings and send a copy of it to the installers.

I think it's only fair to let the installers rectify their work so I've no objection to them coming back - I just want my hot water and heating working OK.

I've also had a report back from Fernox about the samples I sent but I don't know how important the info is. It said the system sample was :
'3 = Very turbid or sediment visible ppm = parts per million'

Would that mean that the installers didn't put any treatment in the system ?

Tryitandsee......the original guy that actually installed the boiler was registered with CORGI because I did check after getting the blue cert. ;)

Thanks to everyone here for the advice x
