I think I got it right...

Someone wanted a new socket outlet fitted in a bedroom and I was happy to oblige.
After I'd smashed my way in to the wall to tap in to the existing ring and forced a back box in eventually I must've lost the earth cable somewhere so I connected a new one from the k/o box to the E terminal on the outlet.
Just wondering though, does this contravene any of those regulation things?

lol, no doubt somebody will correct me if im wrong, but that doesnt constitute an earthing connection.

that connection is for earthing the back box to the main earth for high integrity earthing... but it still needs to go back to the main earthing point.

Also you said you tapped into an existing ring?
how did you do this? because I can only see 1 cable.. did you use a junction box to spur off to the socket?

I hope your sarcasm detector is in order if you think I did that ;)
Apparently not...

whats with the ERRRRR...NO.

im not an electrician.. but everybody else who actually is never bothered to try and give any kind of constructive feedback on it.. thats clearly not earthed.

hence the comment about PLI

then I try and help out, and you just go ERRR...no.. well then instead of saying that to me, why dont you try and give them advice on how they can sort it out before somebody has an accident

I'm concerned that the OP mentions the earth has been lost from the feeder cable and can't be seen in the posted picture.

Does the socket have a cpc / earth from the supply or not ?

If no earth then someone has installed something dangerous and potentially deadly.

High integrity earthing has absolutely nothing to do with earthing the back box.

Indeed not.

I hope your PLI is in order if you are charging for that job
?

OK.

Who do you think we should advise?

The person who did that, and who is not a visitor to this site and did not post it here?

Or JohnnyG who is an electrician and who found it in a house he went to?

It has a cpc now ;)
I found it when doing an R1+R2 test, it's spurred from a JB and as you can see from the pic below it had a cpc when it left it but had mysteriously disappeared by the time it met the outlet, it's the cable going 'north'.
It hadn't been snipped back at the terminal end and was just nowhere to be seen, I can only think when it got pulled through the wall it either stretched or broke and the 'electrician' couldn't be bothered to re-run it.

methinks this thread should not be taken too seriously

The only seriousness involved is rectified :)

So any way lets return to HIGH INTEGRITY EARTHING.................... anyone care to begin..?????!?!?!?

Steve? You like this topic, i'll just go start the engine and say my goodbyes
