I want to fit a 1200lt single skin oil tank in my back garden, is this legal or do I have to fit abounded tank, does anyone know the answer.

As far as I'm aware its illegal. You need to have a bund to catch the contents of tank if it were to leak.

AFAIK currently legal, so long as no watercourse would be polluted in the event of a spill. But you really need an OFTEC qualified guy to advise.
a single skin tank can only be considered where theres no risk to the enviromemnt. You should also check with the local authority. Personally id go for bunded

My mother had burning oil runnning 50m down her driveway after a neighbour's oil tank sprang a leak and was ignited.
Luckily someone diverted the flow into the field although it was still some distance away from the house!
The fire brigade had some difficulty dealing with an oil fire in Cornwall as they apparently had very little foam with them.

If the tank is close to a boundary with neighbour's house there may be some insurance issues.
My mother successfully claimed off the oil tank owner's insurance and they had to pay to remove about 10 tons of oil contaminated sand and provide some scalpings for the track. That was augmented with the contractor to resurface all the track.

Water is just as effective as foam on an oil fire, as long as it's a fine mist.
the tanks lifespan is usually shortened by being poorly supported along its base Agile.If its not completely supported along the base bulges can appear along with white stress lines
recently passed oftec ticket Agile so will look into this keenly.
