why, if it didnt have a bund any leakage which there shouldnt be any would just get washed off the plinth so why would i collect it and dispose of differently?

Because environmentally speaking there is a massive difference between microscopic leakage and dumping an enormous amount in one go. Think of it as being like drinking - a single glass of wine every night for 20 nights isn't going to make much difference to you, but 5 bottles in one night would make you very ill, and the contents of your stomach would need to be correctly disposed of...

Sorry but am i missing something here, people have been building bunds around oil tanks for decades.Are you trying to tell me that these people are all collecting any water drained out of the bund and taking it to a specialist waste facility.Is it better to have no bund at all so that if the worst was to happen the oil goes everywhere, lot of people talking nonsense here.

No, it's better to have a properly designed and approved bunded tank. What people have been doing with their brick bund effluent is they've mostly been incorrectly dumping it onto the land, causing pollution (or in many cases, leaving a permanent drain pipe in the bottom of it, thus completely defeating the object of it). There's only one person talking nonsense here, and it isn't the OFTEC registered engineers trying to give him the advice he asked for but has now decided he doesn't like the look of

Well for a start i didnt start this thread and was not looking for advise what tank to buy.Someone suggested to the original poster that they could build a bund around it and i simply commented that that was what i had been planning to do.

Does your home insurance cover you for any oil tank spillages on your property and a liability limit for clearing up on neighbouring land?
