Ideal Classic ff40 problem

pilot solenoid is quite a common fault on the classic and is easy to check, just look though the sight glass or at the pcb and see if its sparking but not lighting. if it is, its a 5min job and ya can get um separately

Hes already stated it fires for 20 seconds or so, so it must be just circulating the boiler.

no it doesn't. i've changed about 20 where the solenoid fails wen warm.

This is what i was told by a friend who used to comment on here a few years ago, not seen him lately (Andy Strachan from Ossett, Wakefield). This is why he said it was the gasvalve, as he has just changed one last week, i said to him 'i'm having problems with an ideal classic' and he said to me 'is it firing up for about 20 secs and then cutting out' and then told me it was the solenoid on the gasvalve, before i even gave him the symptoms, but i thought i'd get some other ideas before i spend £120 on a gasvalve (which it might not be).

Worlds best gas man then.
On an FF it could have been the fan, the Stat, etc yet he knew without looking or hearing any symptoms it was the gas valve.
I need this mans skills!!!

its only the solenoid ya have to change (if it is at fault), its held in with a l shaped clip and takes 5min. just check if its sparking but not igniting 1st..
and like n.g.a.f.f says buy a magnet

 does the flow pipe at the boiler get red hot though?????? if its not circulating it would get up to around 90 degrees... yes or no plz

Left at about 2pm, didn't check it to be honest. I was upstairs trying to get the water circulating in the new pump. Was getting the customer to switch it on and off downstairs in the kitchen as he was hovering around. Maybe the water is circulating, there are small amounts there but nothing substantial coming out.

That's why i thought i'd ask your opinions first before i get a new valve on monday. Fans ok, pumps now ok and it fires up and stays lit for 20 secs.
