Identify object found in garden?

175mm. 7" to me and you, try and find the key and then flog it on ebay..

So how do they work?
There appears to be no moving parts that operate to secure two separate items together. Have watched a video but when it is put through the hole what 'locks' it in place?

Yeah. I can't work that out either...

It has to work by one of the end knobs pulling off the shaft, no other way. Presumably the one with the keyhole.
