I have an Ikea Lillholmen bathroom wall lamp, IP44 rated. It is steel with a glass globe shade. It has a live and neutral but no earth, so my electrician says it is dangerous to fit as the metal is not earthed.
Ikea customer service say it is double insulated, although there is no square in square symbol on the box or instructions, and the electrician seems to think even if double insulated it isn't safe.
It will be switched on with the main light switch outside the bathroom and placed c. 80cm above the sink. It is to be fitted in a new house in Ireland.
My question is, has anyone had experience of Ikea bathroom lamps, and do you think they are safe and the electrician is being over cautious?
Thanks
