Seems you have worked out there should be as supplied a link between the two TA terminals or some cable out of them with a link where cable terminates.
Clearly these would go to the volt free connections on the time switch/thermostat. With an independent supply to power the time switch/thermostat.
These boilers often don't have a thermostat but use the thermostatic radiator valves to control temperature.
I have had problems in the past where the boilers don't run 24/7 because of the lock shield valves not being set correctly.
A room thermostat is required to be fitted to all UK boiler installations.
If all rads have TRVs ( as now also required! ) then an auto bypass valve ( ABV ) is needed.
The ABV ensures that a flow continues throught the boiler. If this does not happen then the boiler temperature control may not work and it could overheat!
