JulieL said:It has a lot to do with it actually - as we are talking about fraudulent claiming - and you can't just restrict this to looking at asylum seekers only.
I haven't actually said or implyed in my post that it doesn't justify preventing asylum fraud.........
I'm sorry that you don't understand 'my logic' - it's not that complicated though - my logic is that benefit fraud is benefit fraud - whether it's by asylum seekers or others - and should be tackled as such.
I don't agree with any 'group' of people undetaking fraudulent claims no matter who they are.
The tens of millions of pounds you mention can't even sort out the fraudsters from this Country never mind the asylum seekers!!
To Julie, Softus and Oilman.
Where have I said that I disagree with what you have said?
However, the asylum seekeer is a different problem to those of us that have NI numbers and passports and birth certificates.
The AS has no means of identification, which means he can file a claim in London, Birmingham, Newcastle, Crewe and any other city, calling himself by whatever name he dreams up. The only way to stop this is to give the claimant an ID. That can be by DNA, fingerprints, iris recognition, etc. This can then form a database whereby every new claim is cross referenced against the claims already submitted. A fingerprint search could be carried out whilst the claiment is within a secure are. If there is already a fingerprint matching his on the system then he can be apprehended there and then and expelled from the country.
It's not just multiple claims that would be prevented. You just aren;'t thinking this thing through.
If an AS (after years of expensive appeals) is removed from the country, then what (as things stand) is to prevent the guy coming straight back in the back of a lorry and claiming asylum? Another load of appeals - and he MAY get kicked out, but he may also have got his story right this time around. If he does get kicked out - he comes back and claims asylum for another few years. If there were fingerprint checks he couldn't do that. He would be sussed out at the point of claim and removed from the country. No appeals - just gone.
Do you have a problem with that? If so - why?
