i have just bought a 24volt impact wrench ,i bought this so i could get the wheels nuts of my transit , Soft grip, variable speed, forward & reverse, electric brake, 1/2" square drive
No load speed 0 - 2000rpm, impact
frequency 0 - 4000ipm, maximum torque 400Nm 295ft/lbs

Led Battery Indictor

now i may be a bit stupid but how do these work ? i put it on the wheel nuts and tried to remove the nut but nothing ive read the insructions and it says to loosen the nut first , but whats the point of having the gun if it wont loosen the nuts , am i doing something wrong ?

I think you are probably asking just a bit too much from this driver, as Transit wheel nuts can be very tight indeed....in fact when I'm working with stuff this size my 1/2" drive air gun is useless and I have to reach for the 3/4" drive one.
Give it a try on smaller things like the usual car wheel nuts, and see how it deals with those.
John :)

Thanks John
i a bit miffed as i asked the store if it was capable of doing transit nuts and they pointed this gun out as the best one for the job . It wasnt cheap either and when i rang them they said that they do not have any responsiblity for the product as i will have to take it up with the manufactors . i did point out that i came into the shop and asked them for a tool that would do what i wanted and that they had recommend this one and they came back and said that my wheels nuts must be over tightend and that i wss not getting a refund as there is nothing wrong with it . so looks like i have an expensive tool that im not likely to ever use

When I get Transits in I usually need a 2' breaker bar and a scaffold pole to shift the wheel nuts - in no way will a windy gun come close.....
However, you have bought a genuinely useful bit of kit here so there could be other jobs for it, if the store won't take it back. I would have thought they could though, if you have all the packaging etc - just to keep you sweet.
The torque figure given for any of these tools is usually wide of the mark - maybe in ideal, lubricated situations - but Tranny wheels? No. There's even a notice inside the cab instructing the driver to keep the wheel nuts tight - hence those plastic arrows that you can get to stick over the nuts so you can see if any have shifted.

I would phone trading standards as you have been sold something that isn't fit for the purpose, in this case THEY told you which tool to buy for a specific job.

Yeah, and while you're at it, ask Trading Standards if they have any common sense leaflets they can post you too.

They helped me no end when Cadburys sent me a tea cosy that never worked.

transit nuts are a max of 200nm so it should do it, they may well have been over tightend last time they were put on

is it one like this?

Transit wheel nuts are notorious for getting all cr@pped up with dirt etc. It's important that you keep the plastic covers on to keep the cr@p out. I've spent ages with a 3/4 drive gun struggling to get them off. Once you do free them give them a good clean up and don't allow it to happen again even if it means excercising them periodically. If it's the big nuts with no covers, you might be f*@#~d!

With a max torque of 400Nm it should have easily coped with that. Transit nuts don't tighten up to anything more than that! They are not frigin hub nuts!

Hub nuts go up to a max of about 250Nm on normal cars, my 1 Meter breaker bar has not failed me yet...

Thanks John

they are completley wrong they sold you it as capable off removing transit nuts
so there for missold the product

your contract with them was for a impact drill to remove transit nuts
it has failed and the courses open to them is
if they think its faulty is to have it repaired
if its working properly and wont do the job your contract is nul and void as its not fit for purpose
your contract is with them and not the manufacturer you should not deal with the manufacturer as the contract is with the wholesaler/shop

I seem to recall many years ago Transit nearside wheels were left hand thread!!
