As "ordinary" galvanising has a mottled finish then my guess is that the yellow mottling is zinc plating and a plain yellow finish is electro-brass plating.

So, which object in the photo is which?

The one with the hinge and 3 screws. What kind of platings are they?

I think the hinge is zinc plated because the colour is not uniform. I can't tell about the screws.

A bit of luck, exact match received. 4.2 x 25 on the dot. Compared to ZYP (the 2 outer screws shown in the hinge photo), the new electro brass is uniform and has no hint of green in it. The old screw is greenish could be because of aging - although I can't see how since it was protected in wood and under paint.

Why Not Indeed is the winner of the thread. Uniformity of colouration can be used for identifying the plating. Brass is strongly uniform. Zinc has a spectrum of colours.
