The other safe and therefore enjoyable thing is the reliability of service stations.Second that.
Just need to remember the 110/130 rule on the Autoroutes.
Not their service, as such, but their mere presence.
Every 25 k, each alternate one a simple rest stop, picnic area and toilets.
The best service station I've ever seen is the southbound one from places like Caen/Boulogne, just before Rennes.
I think it's called the Mont Saint-Michel service station.
It's got (or used to have} a working model of the Mont Saint-Michel bay behind the service station.
It's a bay that (I think) the monks built to harness the tides to keep the bay free from silt.
I don't know the full history, but the working model was really entertaining to see.
I can't say I've ever enjoyed a few hours at any other motorway service station. Although I have a had a couple of hours sleep on the grass on a sunny afternoon occasionally on long journeys.
