Hi guys,

Refitting my kitchen and need an extractor fan (over hob type).

Was wondering if these normally connect straight into the mains or if they have a standard plug fitting and plug into a socket.

(Obviously going to get a spark in to do it but just want to be a bit informed before I get quotes).

If you look on the pic below you can just about see where the cooker is now (so extractor above it), where the current wall fitted extractor is and just to the right of the cooker on the tiled splashback - where the nearest electric supply is:

Assuming that the extractor needs connecting direct into the mains, will the spark likely run the cabling from the current fan (above the "to be installed" wall units or up inside the wall from the sockets..... or something completely different?

Some come with a plug top and some don't.
They can be plugged in to a socket outle, providing the plug top is fitted with a suitable fuse or they can be wired to a fused connection unit, again with the FCU having being fitted with a suitable rated fuse.
Your electrician will be able do this, not a difficult task.
