Hi, I am looking to top up the insulation in my loft and have spotlights in my bathroom, do I need to cut holes in the insulation to ensure that I do not cover up where these have been cut out as I'm assuming covering these up would cause a fire hazard ?
I have looked into this as I am building an extension and will have spotlights between the floors (BCO insist on insulation between floors for sound damping)
You could build some plasterboard boxes to go over them, or some clay flowerpots with the hole in the top to let heat out (Make sure they are plenty big enough) or even purchase proper intumescent boxes to go over them (Fire proof, available from B&Q, Screwfix etc at Arround £10 each)
If your lights happen to be low voltage (12V), do not put loft insulation over the transformer. I found this out the hard way. The transformer lasted for about 30 seconds.
