Hi,

In the not too distant future I will be getting all the guttering done.

However, up until Thursday I have access to a scaffold tower and I have a gutter so knackered it’s making a waterfall down the house and a lake on the drive.

What I would like is some guidance please on how to do an interim fix on this problem, as ultimately any money spent on it will be going into a skip at some point over the next couple of years.

Hopefully you can see from the picture taken from the ground that light can be seen through what looks like a previous patch up job.

I’ve also popped my little drone up this morning and taken some shots of the area surrounding. And I’ve also added the weather forecast in case something needs to be done in the dry

If it was me, I’d take off the cast iron downpipe and replace whole lot in plastic.

plastic downpipe is pretty cheap and well worth it for just 2 years.

Thanks - how would you do the connection at the top?

Your drone sounds all very impressive and everything. But it's no use if you don't have picture of the waterfall. Can't tell from these pictures what the problem is. If you have a leak somewhere, you can patch the hole with hybrid polymer sealant. It sticks to itself and you can build it up with multiple applications.

Hi,

The down-pipe is completely disconnected at the top, and is offset. I can see this in the pictures I posted. I’m sorry you can’t.

It’s a dry day today so I’m unable to take a picture of what happens when it’s raining. The rain misses the down-pipe as the down-pipe is disconnected and is offset.

Thanks

Ben

Looks to me like the pipe on the outlet has cracked. If you are wanting a temporary bodge, perhaps you can use something like puraflex adhesive (tool station) to fill the crack.
I would cut down a length of plastic down pipe say 60mm tall and then cut it into two halves, vertically, press it into the adhesive, will be like a collar/splint, will get you through the winter.

As Notch has said, probably best replaced.

Here you go, wheeled the scaffold over (should have also wheeled back) and removed and a thin collar of metal so that the gap can be seen.

It’s just started raining so you may get your waterfall shot after all

When googling the other day, I came across someone who mentioned a product that would line the outlet from the top and connect the 2 back together, but I can’t find that now.

Something like that would be my first choice, rather than replacing the entire down pipe.

Can't really tell the size. Is a 2 litre cola plastic bottle big enough? You can cut a section and use it to close the gap. They also do a 2.5 litre bottle that's bigger. Strong tape the bottle section to the gutter.

The swan neck looks cracked .
It has also slipped into the DP socket so was always a bit short .
I'd be inclined to free the swan neck from the socket on the pipe and re position it..a little patience and quite easy . Maybe check the pipe fixings in the wall too.
Pictures inside the actual guttering look good . Leaking joints in cast are easily remade and long lasting .

Thanks - sounds good - how would I free the swan neck from the socket?

Agree , most of the guttering can also be reused in future. Damage from not replacing will be far more.
