Nobody (so far) has ever died in a house fire where a sprinkler was fitted, they'll be mandatory in new houses one day. Then the cost will drop.

Actually I think one person has died in a house fire in a dwelling where a sprinkler system was fitted. It's thought that they set fire to themselves with a cigarette, and died before the fire developed into a house fire, thereby activating the sprinkler system. I agree that this is not a compelling argument against fire-suppression systems, sprinkler or otherwise.

In this article, it makes reference to a competent persons report, it suggests it should be a fire specialist. But doesn’t seem to say it has to be.
