Is Britain fracking the wrong thing?

not my beliefs, but based on reports, small tremors have been reported as well as in USA where it is being carried out in large scale, those effected by water pollution and other chemical hazords, this relatively new technology does not justify fracking one bit and the immense cost of carrying it out, and then this source will deplete sooner than expected, it is not a renewable source of energy. The return will be poor for the investors, whilst we still has some energy left, we should tilise it in manufacturing billions of solar panels.

Growing crops for fuel or covering the land in solar panels results in the same thing.
Less crops to feed animals and humans.

Even with all the farm land in the UK its still not enough to feed the burgeoning population.

Ahh, we should cover the country with wind farms and solar panels then?? That'll bring the prices down........ NOT. ;) ;) ;)

Perhaps we should do ALL of those things?

Share the load as evenly as we can, grow crops for duel, use wind and wave energy for electric and frack for gas in places that are away from mass civilization. Perhaps in the far north of scotland lol

Mike solar panels are not the answer to our.........(hesitates)........prayers. But then neither is fracking. It isn't safe. If it were, there would be no need for gagging orders or laws to protect the fracking industry.

In this thread we learn Mike is a gullible fool.

Murikwa has lax environmental controls, that's why they have problems with contamination, not because of fracking, it's like using the robin reliant as an argument to show cars are crap. Hey, did you know factories in china that produce jeans heavily pollute the river, Clearly we must ban all jeans manufacturing in the UK, it is dangerous and causes pollution!

"tremors", that cause a few cracks in plaster, meh.

As to a poor return to investors, HURR DURR, that means cheaper electricity or gas for us consumers.

I am against growing crops for fuel, the top soil has only so much potential and mineral resources, once these are depeleted, we won't even be able to grow weeds let alone edible things, so the answer obviously lies in using those parts of the earth that are lying barren, like the great Sahara desert region, this way we won't have to sacrifice our green belt areas for generating power through wind or solar, and with our advances in technology and the use of superconductors and nano technology, it would not be too impossible to carry billion megawatts through a hair thin wire (Note Aron now I am really talking like a gulliable fool, going after you obviously! )

Solar power = useless in this country.
Wind power = not much better.
Fracking = potential advantages.
Nuclear power = best option in the long term.

Anyone thinking fracking is the 'solution' needs their head examined...

Leaving aside all the other risks, how do they intend to deal with millions of gallons of radioactive waste water per well?

Then multiply that figure by the thousands of wells that they intend to drill and you start to get an idea of the scale...

Of course though at least they will store all that waste water in secure facilities, and this country never has a problem with floods as they do in the good ole US of A....

But there is always the new look landscape to look forward to...

I think there's a certain amount of exaggeration here, to say nothing of fear-mongering.

How shall we dispose of 'low-level radioactive water'? Sends chills down the spine, doesn't it?

In which case, how on earth shall we dispose of higher-level radioactive emissions from granite in places such as Cornwall and Aberdeen? And how are we going to avoid being bombarded by cosmic rays during long-distance air travel? And what about all that ubiquitous radon gas coming from under our feet?

It sounds to me that the anti-fracking greenies are becoming desperate.

Edit: Just to clarify, natural background radiation (similar to that being claimed as from dangerous 'radioactive water') has been around us since the year dot. We seem to be surviving well enough despite that.
