Is my loft safe to stand in?

Hey,

My question is, is my loft safe for me to walk on the joists?

I live in an apartment block, I’m on the top floor, in one bedroom there’s a small leak from the roof falling on to the ceiling, waiting on the management company to fix, but in the meantime want to put something over the leak to collect the water that drips through!

I’ve included a picture of my loft, I think that I can stand on the metal joists but they don’t look strong enough, but work men have been up in there before with no issue!

That's a false ceiling. Those are not joists

It is designed to be strong enough to hold up the plasterboard. Lighting fittings probably have additional supports.

Thanks for the explanation!

I was pretty sure it wasn’t safe to walk on but just found it strange two electricians have been up in the loft when some work needed doing!

They were lucky and unprofessional to do so, that's a ceiling void not a loft BTW.

are you sure they didnt work off ladders without loading up the false ceiling??

They both definitely went up into the loft, one to fit the cable for an electric shower and the other to remove a cable for an old storage heater!

ok need to clarify here
you have a room with a high ceiling, a loft would be above the natural high ceiling not the void beneath to the false ceiling below
do you have an actual loft in the roof void ??

if they actually mention attic or roof void they would not mean the space above the false ceiling
