In America polybutylene is no longer commercially available because the products manufacturers have been the subject of class action lawsuits. Over a billion dollars has been paid to hundreds of thousands of home owners who had polybutylene systems installed in their properties.

Many insurance companies in America will not cover properties with polybutylene systems, these systems also had long 'Guarantees' the rate of system failure is escalating as the systems age. One of the causes of system failure is said to be chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride in the water, there is also concern about chemicals leaching from the plastic it self into the water supply.

It will be a sorry day indeed that we start basing our behaviour and decisions upon the effect of the American litigation society.
