Checking spelling and I have noticed a lot of the suggestions to change the spelling to seem to be American i.e neighbors instead of the English neighbours.

Also "specialise" is spelt with a "Z" in the spellchecker.

I think the American's should change the name of their language to anything but "English"

But "specialize" and "organize" and other words with an -"ize" endings are not "American" spellings! They are the original "British English" spellings which became corrupted many years ago. It is often blamed on the aristos adopting French spellings to be "posh". If you look in most British Dictionaries, e.g Oxford, you will find that "ize" is the preferred spelling.

It is the same with "gotten".

The Pilgrim Fathers left before the language got corrupted; like wot it is now, see?

Being from across the pond I think its only right that the spell check uses the other side of the ocean for spelling as the Lord knows how we Americans did butcher the language and I like learning new aspects of plumbing, drainage and gas fitting

Regardless of the apparent etymology (of which I was unaware and will be reading up about during the day, now!), the -ize ending and certainly "gotten" make my flesh crawl. Definitely up there with "different to"...

I totally AGREE I never liked the way folks from England, sound to much like cockney.. (Are you being served )

I think the Scottish speak the true language of the crown followed by Ireland as a close second

I'm afraid so

One thing I must admit about the English language I found it to be very non appealing when making love.
I was with a lady from Liver pool as she was on holiday and we ended up in bed and she said " OH GOD I'M ARRIVING"

Kind of spoils the mood when one busts out laughing
