Just been down the local garden centre and noticed this whilst the wife was shopping.

The Christmas light display run off one 13A plug consisting of one 50m Wickes extension reel with about 45m still wound on the reel supplying in a daisy chain five six way 13A trailing sockets and five four way 13A trailing sockets. So 41 13A sockets available for plugging in Christmas lights.

The display now all 50% off and very few left plugged in with only seven sockets in use but although such lights are seldom highly rated 41 sockets off one 13A socket struck me as pretty impressive. If the place hasn't burnt down by next year I must make a point of having a look early in the season to see what the loading is.

I found a piece of black plastic in the loft. It is hard, round and flat, but each side is covered in fine grooves.

Is this a record?

No. records only have one groove on each side. ( except one that had two grooves on one side and played a different version depending where the needle was placed on the edge )

One thing that really annoys me about christmas lights is when they only give you 1.5 metres of cable on each rope-light sculpture. Mind you, not a prob for me as I have made a mint this year extending cables for people, and re-certifying each light ;)

Any of mine that arn't long enough get fitted with BSEN60309 connectors and plugged into suitable leads

not sure what others would make of a BS1363 plug to 16A BSEN60309 trailing socket outlet lead wired in 1mm² flex to power them, but I have fitted a 3A fuse in the plugtop and I know not to use them for anything else...
