Hi guys

I am in the middle of a man cave project. the overall size is 8m x 8m single skin block.
the walls are almost up and now we tackle the roof.

I really want to avoid putting a wall inside and would prefer one large open plan design. my question is first is it possible to do with timber only across and 8m span for a flat roof

if yes what size joists would you recommend aswell as spacing.

thanks in advance guys

Well assuming DL of 1Kn/m2 and snow load of 0.75kn/m2 a C24 150 wide x 300 deep spaced at 400 centres ( or 75 x 300 at 200c/c) would keep deflection just within 14mm limit but as for practicality and sourcing ???

I think you have two options for a clear space. Either posijoists as @Dereekoo said, or you put a steel across to half the span.

Or instead use a glulam beam, they go up to 1.2m deep and more as standard.

^^

thank you guys with the four outer walls up I got a better view on the scale and to avoid complications we have decided to put a dividing wall with one side being 4.7m and other side split into two small rooms.
