Isn't it time that the people of this country said ENOUGH.

Martian,, do you really believe that the majority of Muslims respect our religion or would be willing to " embrace people from other religions?"
Short answer is ,, they won't.
Go to a Muslim country and see how they embrace multiculturalism or other religions.

A kind note...If there was a Christian court of Law, Muslims would not be recognised as religious people, as there is no mention of Islam in the Bible, since Islam came 600yrs afterwards, therefore making Christianity usless at embrassing other religions and the lawful rights of it's followers. Therefore technically don't ask...if you can't give!

multiculturalism? since when did fasting become a culture?!

fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam.

Let me explain...

English culture = Celebrting May Day, Football, etc
Muslim Culture = practising Muslim Chinese martial arts

these have long history in China, and many Muslims have participated at the highest level of Chinese martial arts. The Hui started and adapted many of the styles of Wushu such as Bajiquan, Piguaquan, Liu He Quan, and other styles.

Muslim Religion = celebrating the right of all religions to be recognised individually as Christians etc...in an Islamic Court of Law, since Islam came after Judaism, and Christianity, therefore automatically recognising all religions before it. :D

Another thing while I'm here, Islam is not a religion; its a title used so people don't get confused.

Religion = "obligation, the bond between man and the gods"

Gods? Just one in Islam, hence why Islam is a Faith not Religion.

So what about us poor old atheists? who have no Axe to grind and let you religious types get on your way, but sadly if it's not church bells it some silly sod wailing (probably recorded ) at 4.00 am.
Where do we fit into things? How do we exorcise our rights?

Exorcise?!

tr.v. ex·or·cised, ex·or·cis·ing, ex·or·cis·es
1. To expel (an evil spirit) by or as if by incantation, command, or prayer.
2. To free from evil spirits or malign influences.

Celebrating the right of all religions to be recognised individually??
I really don't think so Sohail. We are the unbelievers according to Islam and so should be smote from the face of the earth (apparently)
Islam doesn't even recognise the rights of women to do as they please.
Even different movements within Islam cause wars, etc (same as it is with the Christians though)
Try and tell us that this isn't so.

You raise a very interesting point... If the Islamic courts base their judgements entirely on 1400 year old rules and precedents, then how does it relate to the modern world? But, if the Islamic courts have modified and refined their process over the centuries, why does Sharia still gravitate its adherents to a bygone age?

Over the last 2000 years, the major flavours of Christianity have embraced new ideas along the way. For instance, in the CofE a bishop can be openly gay, or a woman (hard to say that without it sounding like shock horror!). The Catholic church is considering revoking the rule that priests cannot marry.

Whereas, and with no intent to offend, the only development I am aware of in Sharia law is that now if one is convicted of homosexuality, the wall is built of breezeblocks instead of rocks, and is pushed over onto the convict by bulldozer instead of manually.

Or, is my first question (how does Sharia relate to the modern world) moot? Does a strict implementation of Sharia mean we should live as they did 1400 years ago, and shouldn't be tolerating gays and women?

Should Sharia now be updated to take into account that pork is no longer dangerous to eat, but alcohol still has the ability to turn people into d*ckheads?

(Of course, let us not forget that there are plenty of very shouty Christians who still believe that each and every bout of pre-marital and/or bum-love is chalked up on a big slate by the Devil, who then burns you eternally for not believing the Earth was created about 2 years ago in the course of 6 days)

Err... what religion is that then???

I am an atheist- no religion respect my views. I can't even shop all day sunday because a religious cleric decided to reinterpret their religion to suit their needs and decided to move the sabbath to sunday.

If people want to believe in magic and the fairies at the bottom of the garden then so be it.

I do get p1ssed off with the not so silent majority blaming any group smaller than themselves for the fact their lives are sh!te. Guess I just don't like bullies.

So there are some people in society that may or may not like you, do you really think that burning crosses and throwing bricks is going to endear them to you???

The Halcyon sundays with everyone watching the cricket on the village green, eating marmite and cucumber sandwiches and drinking Pims are a myth...

In reallity small kids were up chimneys, the father of the hungry family was being hung for stealing a loaf of bread and the maid was being beaten by the master for spilling his brandy.

Ultimately, only you can decide if you want to go through life being angry or not.

What do you mean Opps the sabbath was moved to a Sunday? Hasn't it always been a Sunday??
Although I'm an atheist now, I was brought up a Catholic and am not aware of this change. Do you mean it used to be on a Wednesday as that's when the 'half day closing' of shops used to be

my father in law has a sticker of the union jack on his car that says

if this flag offends you then please feel free to leave this country.

But he is intentionally being contentious?

I guess that you and I have different criteria for respect...

Indeed it seems that the Christian Sabbath has always been on Sunday. See here
