Morning all,

The isolator switch for my electric shower is knackered. It works when held in place then when released the light goes out. The shower is a Triton Cara 8.5kw unit.

What kind of rating do I need to make sure the new isolator switch can cope with? 40amps?

Not an electrician, but I think you need an isolator that can handle 37A. Something like this will work:

The RCD will as I understand it, will make sure that more power is not sent through your cables than is needed and this isolator will be large enough to handle the load passing through it and at the same time be used to isolate the shower if and when required.

As I said, I'm not an electrician though and so may not be 100% correct?

Looks cheap and nasty get a Volex or MK like this:

Better terminals to connect your cable to.

No that is not correct. The MCB protects the cable the RCD protects you!
