Issue Installing Bathroom Extractor Fan

On reflection, mine was a downstairs fan so getting to the duct in the floor void would be a major pita.

If your fan is in the loft, just go up there and refit the ducting. You can use flexible ducting to fit directly on the spigot or you can rejig the ducting so that it allows proper space for the new fan.

The previous install isnt great anyway. You clearly have air leaking around the fitting.

Do it right would be my 1st approach.

Drill a series of holes where you want to start then enlarge into a slot. Then use a hacksaw blade with one of those handles you can slip on to cut away the material
Alternatively you can get a cheap Dremel for £30 or so.
 
as above with the holes, then you could try joining the holes heating a stanly type blade heated up to red hot and melting it. You would need to experiment first to be sure it all wouldn't burst into flames. Call the fire brigade first.
