It's For Data Protection

Unfortunately, the data protection act is completely misunderstood by most companies, and quoted ad infinitum as an excuse to cover that they don't know what they are doing.
I see doggit is spouting off his usual rant, despite not being fully aware of the necessary legal requirements:

Yup, I get very irritated to put it mildly. Have been known to swear at the operator, and then slam the phone down on them in frustration at their obstinant stupidity.
And I get very irritated by social media users' obstinate stupidity who spout off that they know better than the Data Protection officers.

Just been onto Boots today. Wanted to order a couple of things but could not find them on the website.
Can I have your DOB......?
What for?
Data protection.......
No, thanks.
Going to complain to them now.

Make one up. Complaining will only waste your time and make you aggravated.

I rang to complain and the second lady I spoke to apologised profusely and said she could not understand why I was being asked my dob when I was only ringing up for a product query.
Result! Not aggravated at all!

Time well spent no doubt
