Excuse me for shouting but its the only way i can get people around here to hear over the din. Fireworks are lovely and pretty and i used to look forward to that special night of november the 5th when i was a kid. Sure we had a few odd ones going off before and after, but for the last two weeks its been like bagdhad around here. takes the shine off and im fed up to the back teeth with them already.

That's odd, I know what you mean, but I've not heard any around here. I remarked about this fact to my wife, you know, sad boring g1t that I am !!

surprisingly, there hasnt been many around here this year. either that, or the double glazing is better than i thought!

Been going of for fukcing WEEKS round here, same every year!

What ever happened to the idea of banningthe sale of fireworks to the public?

BOB, maybe yours are blocked up, they've been going off round here for more than a week, some of them shake the bloddy house, and it's not me getting a leg over.

Its just gon 12 mid. A strange calm has descended. its raining thats probably why. Me dog is just coming round from her knockout tablet have to hope she's ok (14 yrs old). A chap over the way, a faulklands veteran is having a bad time, His ship was one of them that went down! He dont mind the normal stuff it's them yuppie ballistic ones which lying labour ministers said they were goin to ban. Any how these firworks tonight were advertised in local paper so we were prepared and fair enough. BUT!!! its the pratts who let em off at anytime just one now and again which sends me dog up the wall. But why havent these very loud ballistic ones been banned :?: I can't see the point in them anyway. Wev'e been getting a few bursts for the last week or so. I wonder if anyones been prosecuted yet?

Good point, I wonder how these bangs affect people caught up in recent bombings?

I thought they were banned after 11pm now, apart from Divali which is 12. But round my parents' way we had them going till nearly 1am last night. The poor cats were very unhappy.

Now, this year Guy Fawke's is on a Saturday. So they can hardly use the excuse that they chose the nearest weekend to the 5/11.

It's great fun for the person having the fireworks, I love setting them off. But some people don't seem to realise (or care) that setting them off at all hours for several weeks either side really REALLY gets on one's teats.

a village near us had their organised display on the 22nd! and a small airport near us had their display on the 26th. watch incoming here come some more!

Seems almost like every social group in the country has the usual power crazed organising members who are trying to out do all the other groups. Years ago, when it was a family do, you couldn't get, and didn't "need", such ridiculously violent devices. Am I a kill-joy? You bet!

Legend has it my great-uncle (died before I was born) would buy a particularly large type of rocket that would release a little toy man on a parachute when it blew. That's pretty cool. :D

I would fully approve of a rivalry for the best display between Rotary and Round Table and Women's Institute and Masons and Catenians etc etc... Nothing would be beter than a competition to see who can build the biggest bonfire with the best fireworks, but only if they do it on one or two legally-sanctioned nights. Have all the bangs go on over one night, then it would be far more exciting! Huge bangs from 7-12, non-stop! GREAT!

But instead we have the odd bang here and there for a month either side. Boring.

When my dad taught in Southall (a Sikh area, they too celebrate Divali) he used to end up confiscating fireworks from the lads who brought them into school. It was brilliant, he would let us build them into the bonfire and that made it somewhat exciting!!!

It might be "exciting" for those who want it, but it frightens some, frightens pets, so it presumably frightens wildlife. What about people trying to sleep?

Why do people do whatever and claim it is for some charity to benefit some particular group, while forgetting the problems their activities might cause others? They have a convenient get-out, it's easier to show how much "profit" they made, but almost impossible to find the cost.

The sooner they ban the sale of fireworks to the general public the better, the're nothing but a nuisance and it seems we have no end of celebrations that 'have to have' fireworks now. Three weeks before november the 5th and two weeks after, that seems to be about the average period round our way.

It's mostly young hooligans walking around and letting them off randomly that are the problem, but the police can't do anything unless they actually see them do it. What a surprise, a bit hard to do when your driving around in your nice little cocoon

Strange how some people get them that early, as they not suppossed to go on sale until about 16th October. People must be storing them in their loft's  I'm glad I have a detached property, if some of those bigguns go off in the loft it would cause quite a bit of damage.
