shame we can't get some of the customers on here then to spill the beans.

no doubt house of horrors will catch up with them one day. ;)

Never made a ballsup?, I have. Some of them were working for BG and to be fair they were usually when I hadn't followed the procedure properly.
There has been a massive recruitment process in the last few years meaning some inexperienced guys have been learning 'on the job' as you did at some point.
Don't care what anyone says there is no training, support and backup to match Bg even today and there have been many customers on this forum over the years with generally equal numbers of good and bad experience which seeing as this is a forum which deals with problems isn't bad.

The Alpha had the diverter "repaired". It appears they may have refurbed as it doesn't look new. All connections were refitted with silicon sealant (not silicon grease) including a blob all over the filling loop valve (as though thats going to make any difference with mains pressure water).

The boiler was however left with another fault (its likely it was present with the sticking diverter) in that the burner failed to modulate. The tenants are now due for their 4 visit to resolve this seperate fault.

The BG "engineer" was totally dismisive of my suggestion the boiler does not modulate.

So far 10 visits. Not surprising their installation prices are so high when they have to subsidise the dross round here. Perhaps it more of a problem in London.

Just waiting for the "you need a powerflush at ££££££££££££" or how 'bout a new boiler for a bargain price of ££££££££££££££££. Still, there's enough dumb public out there to swallow the free gas and cashback offers

I'm an ex-BG engineer and I have no problem with the engineers or the work that they do. I was a BG apprentice, one of the first new batch in 1999.

BG as a company are no longer serving the needs of their customers and as some point out, they are more interested in selling new boilers and powerflushes than repairing the faults.

The vast MAJORITY of the engineers working for them are good, competent, moral guys and gals but are put under severe pressure by inachievable targets and poor management.

I left because I got sick of being told that I had to meet sales/first visit completion/recall/performance targets that in my opinion could not be met if I was carrying out each job to the best of my ability AND taking the time required to ensure that above all, the work was SAFE.

Before you all come on and say I must be one of the bad ones, then let me point out that I do not claim to be the countrys greatest engineer but I know that I always leave my customers safe and having done the very best I can to resolve their problem.

BG will work for some, not for others. In my opinion, they are the best way to start in the industry as their training is very, very good. Just don't believe the hype and start thinking for yourself as soon as you learn the basics.

GG lots of patches don't allow the purchase of complete diverter valves as there is almost never a need to as bg supply kits of all the internal spindles, diaphragms, washers, o rings etc. The silicon sealant would be lsx.
I imagine the modulation issue was not mentioned as a problem by the customer so not acted upon.
I condone nothing but pointing out a few things.
I would be amazed if it took 10 visits, at 3 visits you need to present an explanation to your team manager, at 5 the area manager is involved and at 7 its national and really hits the fan.....probably why the modulation is going untreated.

make ya right

a powerflush for £650 + vat dream on

£400 and thats a good earner.

568 inc. vat and lifetime guarantee, but I give up to be fair I think the lack of facts make it a tricky discussion plus it's gone pretty well off topic as usual.

some people on here seem to have quite a grudge, I wonder how many of them failed the application process?? ;)

> I wonder how many of them failed the application process??

can't see why they would bother working for them.

i didn't gain all my qualifications and certs to work for £ pitance and let them have the benefits.

if you had any get up and go in yourself you would work for yourself and get the benefits, not give it to some fat slob behind a desk telling you when to jump and how high.

on the over hand you probably haven't got it in ya to organise other engineers, working for ya, that's because you know you would be a failure.

so best stick where ya are and let those who can provide a service do it.

Ha Ha lighten up FFS, anyway I like having spare time!!!, and on the other hand BG have paid for all my training and certificates and I enjoy working for them. I will go further in BG or start up my own business when I feel Im top of my game and dont have a newborn baby to worry about getting food on the table for.

As for get up and go for what other reason would I be on this site trying to improve my knowledge?? I will one day manage engineers whether for BG or myself.

The comment was a joke I know must of you would rather work for yourself, it just makes me laugh that what you hear second hand from customers you take as gospel, sure there are possibly a few numpties in BG but they are all over the trade, im sure if your company had BG customer base some of your customers would complain!!!!

Is it standard BG policy to cover everything in LSX? Why not clean the O ring gland and apply silicon grease as you should do. How can it posibly make any difference to a drip on a filling loop valve thats under mains pressure - to me it just shows incompetence and a lack of understanding.
What's the owner supposed to do when the time comes to top up the pressure?

Perhaps its just me but when I test a boiler I make sure it operates "as the manufacturer intended" ie if it has step modulation it step modulates if its fully modulating it does so.

Considering the vast amount of backup BG engineers have (and the subsidised parts cost) the job should be a piece of ****. As individuals do you specialise in particular manufacturers or are you expected to work on anything (as most independents do). And as for second hand knowledge I've listened to far too much bullshit from BG engineers and especially their management over the years. I have customers so ****ed off with BG's service they pay me to attend their meetings to attempt to resolve the situation. Nice earner for me, keep my hands clean.

Don't start whingeing because your management put pressure on you; have the ballocks to tell 'em where they can stick it. It works believe me, one of my previous careers was in software, reports, targets, mission statements, all the usual modern management carp. In the end I marched the whole team up to the board room to have a chat with the director. Simple, sack our manager or we all quit today. Afterwards I cleared my managers desk with the customary black bin bag as he was escorted fom the building. Sometimes you have no choice. :)
