Joist Hangers for External Use

I take it from your mail that the screws will give as strong a bond as joist hangers. I take that they can be skewed in to secure the joists together ?

when we do a deck we normally use screws and nails for the framework. if we can we put fixings through the outside frame into the end of the joist and then skew nail on the other side, with about 4 down each side. (hope that makes sense) I only use joist hangers on raised platforms or ones holding hot tubs etc, certainly not normal ones at ground level, as they get extra support from the support legs.
