"has been reported to social services for allowing her 15-year-old son to interrail around Europe with a friend"

"The Location, Location, Location presenter said her son, Oscar, went travelling across Europe with a 16-year-old friend this summer. But after he returned, she was contacted by a social worker who informed her that a file had been opened because child protection concerns had been raised"

Since there is no legal age at which a child can be left alone, not sure what she has done wrong...

Our eldest traveled as an accompanied minor on planes to visit relatives from the age of 9/10 and at 12 flew alone, and used local transport alone.

The next one wasn't ready as early to be independently traveling , so it was about age 14...

Parents know best on the whole, and is this just being raised because she is a celeb?

After all, feral kids from 'anonymous' families don't get in the press...

Let's hope it doesn't get to the persecution level of Caroline Flack!

Perhaps that’s why we’ve not heard of yours.
So the forum troll/creepy stalker has nothing to add to a topic as usual...

Probably too busy raising the next generation of feral thugs rather than giving then a decent chance in life

you could leave school at 15 after your exams where finished and start work the next day in the past how many parents would that have dragged into this net. Child labour

If a report is received Social Services are legally bound to investigate
But the thing is do you think that a 15 year old should be allowed to travel independently?

He got back safely with no issue, so obviously his mother's trust was justified...

Plenty of more ignorant brits who travel to Newquay, Magaluf or even Essex (who knows why) come to harm ;)

There's a fine balance between responsible and irresponsible parental behaviour.

Social services have a tough job, but have a legal responsibility to investigate

Times, and age limits have changed, mostly for the better, child labour included.

And don't jump off the deep end and think you're being attacked, it gets tiresome.

Nah, I’m out of that now. What with my furlough bonuses and my government handouts, I’ve ridden that gravy train right up to the end of the tracks. (y) Still got two big 'hits' to come though. ;)

I was one of many that did that.
Although to be more factual, I was employed the same day as leaving, and started on the following Monday, cycling 15 miles each way, at £5 per week.

And wasted much of it on illegally keeping a car in a foreign country, with pointless fraudulent MOT certificates and UK issued insurance.

In 1937 Günther Stern was sent by his parents to America when he was 15 as a means to secure their visas and escape from Hidelsheim, where his father had built a successful business. He survived the Holocaust. They were transported to the Warsaw Ghetto...
