It always used to be a sixpence for hardwood doors and a penny for softwood. Joking apart, I will always use a ratchet brace and bits for the lock together with assorted chisels and mallet (& oilstone) for hinges and faceplates. But then, I'm an old fogey who served a proper apprenticeship.
Yes I agree Gregers ,but only when your in control of all the elements. If you make and fit the door frames and you know they are spot on, yes all the doors and frames can be prepared in a remote situation. Especially useful when the doors weigh a ton and lifting kept to a minimum and when it all goes right it's great.
cor some of the door lining kits ive had the pleasure of fitting recently have been terrible,bowed and twisted.
good job i aint on price anymore some take an age to get right.
1 of the last big jobs i was on when i was a subby,
the doors were already pre-hung into the door frames,they weighed an absolute ton.
just had to pack em out level them up and fix,then fit any ironmongery that was needed.
