I recently replaced my kitchen spotlights. The wiring on the old spotlights matched exactly with the new ones, so no issue there. The new lights work fine, but last night there was a large bang from the kitchen. When I investigated it all appliance and lights were working fine and nothing had blown. There was a slight burning smell, which I assume was from the lights as nothing else had been touched. I checked all the connections for the light fitting and checked all the connections in the ceiling above and all seemed fine.

What could have caused the bang and what am i missing.

Help!

was anyone cooking sausages

Seriously hard to say but probably a short circuit of some kind, try to investigate more

If you have a insulation resistance tester and low ohms resistance tester then it would be a good idea to isololate the circuit and test for insulation resistance between all combinations of conductors and continuity of the coductors.

It may be something in an appliance. Cannot give you any advice there as appliances are the black arts and complet voodoo and all that.

Maybe post the same thing in the appliance forum. The guys there may have a different angle on things.
