Hi

I've got two switches in my kitchen doing not a lot. One is a 13A FCU switch that controls the boiler, and the other is a 45A cooker switch. It's vertical and the equivalent of a 2 gang switch high.

Can I replace either switch with a socket and switch? My mother-in-law has a 45A switch and socket - but it's horizontal not vertical (can I do a horizontal one on its side?). And I'm guessing the single 13A might be tricky due to the size.

Any thoughts?

thanks for that.

Any ideas how I would wire it - or would I have to see what's behind it first?

The cooker switch?

Isolate the circuit
remove old ccu
fit new ccu

The down side to the contactum ccu is that the load terminals are at the top & normally the load conductors (going to the oven) enter the bottom of the back box, so if the conductors are short you might have a struggle on, but so long as a deep box has been used it'll not be a problem if you extend the conductors.

From memory the terminals are labled load & supply so it is a straight swap like for like.
