Kitchen tap aerator fallen out (Ed.)

It does seem to have a lip on the non threaded end? Which end do you put the component stack into? I'm just wondering if something is needed like "you fit all the components then tuck this other flexible ring shaped thing between them and the lip so that they don't then fall out because it closes the hole up"

(Just seen the video)
Edit; in your video, that ring that fell out when you flipped it seems to have a small lip.. can that be fitted as the last thing, and upside down from how you had it so the lip on it squeezes past the metal lip and retains everything? (I assume the rest of the component stack is inserted into the non threaded end and fits past the lip?)

Good idea, however if I put #2 into #7 it only goes so far and then no further, see image.

I also can't help feeling that #1 and #2 were joined together at some point. Certainly in all the pictures I have seen on eBay they appear to be one piece joined together.

Are there any indications that 2 broke off of 1? Bumps in the plastic etc?

Does 2 have a split in it implying it fits around another component and makes it fatter, preventing it from falling out?

I think, were I in your shoes, I'd have reached a point where I'd be considering screwing the silver bit into the tap, marking where the back of it ends up, assembling the whole thing, and using a vice to gently nip just the exit end and make it oval so it doesn't all fall out. (The mark is so you can assess what ends up as the side hence where to nip for the resulting look you want)

Yes, there do appear to be dips in the plastic that indicate certain bits were joined together. At least to mine eyes.

Using a vice on a steel solid piece may work, but I don't have a vice. I was thinking of supeglue on #2 and then slot that into #7 to stop it falling out.

In the end I remembered I had an old tap in the garage, lo and behold that also had an aerator (albeit a slightly different style). However, that seems to work so I am using that for now.

Thanks all for thoughts and advice. If I find a replacement on eBay I will post for anyone else in the same predicament.
