I recently had to replace an o ring in a swan neck kitchen tap and I have a big box of assorted size o rings but of course I had the correct diameter but one size was too fat as it wouldn't plug back in and the other size was thinner than the original, but so far touch wood the one I thought was too thing is working - so in short I do not think you need to get the exact size.

Which is what I did, many years ago - I keep a set of mixed sizes, in a case, bought long ago from Aldi. It was quite tight to turn at first, but gradually bedded in. I need to replace it again, because recently it began leaking again.
