Kitchen wall cabinets - bracket (why so big !)

I'm fitting a Hygena (Homebase) kitchen cabinet.

The wall brackets they hang on to (which I assume are quite standard) are quite wide and at first glance look like they give you a lot of tolerance (horizontally) - however they have to be lined up just inside the recess at back of cabinet so in reality they have no tolerance whatsoever really.

So why are they so wide ? To make them stronger / able to support heavy loads ?

With these plates being somewhat bigger than they would need to be gives a greater span for any rawlplugs drilled into the wall. Drilling masonry holes very close to each other often gives breakthrough.

Ah - now that would make sense - especially when I am going to use 10mm wall plugs !

For me, its Fischer plugs and Spax screws every time.

10mm wall plugs are too large, 6-7 mm are ideal.
