Not sure if it was on this site or another I use but this subject came up and a number of people suggested that there should not be a forum for kitchen fitters as fitting kitchens is not a trade.

I agree, however this is a DIY forum not a trade forum.

There are many DIYers who fit their own kitchens, currently they have to as questions in different forums, where as I am sure it would save a lot of time if all questions could be asked in one single place.

What do others think?

Hmm, Kitchens have Plumbing - sorted
Gas (sorted - but in private, moah hoarhhoarhhoarh)
Tiling - sorted
Carpentry (if Butchering MDF/ChipBoard counts - discuss)
Electrickery
Painting/Decs
Brickwork (?)
plastering

So, mebbe punters might just ask in the relevent box?

I give up ..
I try and suggest that there be a central forum in here for people to ask questions relating to one area and everyone seems to think that kitchen fitting is a bastardised trade unworthy of recognition from others.

And as for butchering chipboard and mdf same could be said for other trades, having seen some shocking work from so called time served trades in the 30 years in kitchens ( including kitchen fitters ) oh darn it's not a trade is it , so I cannot mention kitchen fitters.

I do not and have never belittled other trades regarding their skills and think that anyone in a trade or profession should expect some respect from other people not ridicule in any form .

Without doubt there has been a term "kitchen fitter" for over 35 years with many thousands of people calling themselves that.

discuss away ..

the reason that kitchen fitter get bad press from other trades is all stupid thing we come across
like how they box in boilers had to ar some because this and one guy actualy cut into the boiler to get worktop level
also hide the stop game always fun in an emegency
herd sparks whing about how overload a ring main with extra sockets
and i am sure their are many others
they they do everything but are masters of none

we could argue the toss of this forever.

There are bad and good in all trades.

Like plumbers that put services behind integrated appliances, same with sparkies plug sockets behind a fixed appliance.

A good fitter will tell a designer he is in contravention of any regs regarding flue outlets and hood ducting.

I have an excellent Gas Safe guy who will advise on regs .Also my electrician is very knowledgeable about all aspects of installs not just the regs for elecs but all the little quirks that go with bathroom and kitchen installation. I am able to sign off my own electrics ( domestic only ) but i use a sparks on some jobs to save time . We actually help each other out , not try and rip each other apart.

Working environments are hard enough at the moment without anymosity from other trades when trying to do a job , and this cuts both ways.

not saying your one of them but their are more cowboy kittchen fitters than i see than anyone else

My idea was to have a one-stop-shop (forum) for kitchen fitting, not fitters. DIY kitchen fitting...

Hi Cumbria

That is what I suggested.

Kitchen fitters who wish to help DIYers then have a central place to answer posters.. and posters can post in one area , instead of going through three or four sections to get all the answers.. the only exception I would say is electrics as the regs are very specific.

Adl plumbing .. then I must say you have had a bad experience. I personally know of many excellent installers who have pride in their work . I also know the cowboys too both KF and plumbers.

All I suggested was a section for kitchens .. not kitchen fitters to show off.
