My opinion is, I wouldn't trust it, ice, wet leaves, green moss etc, the cheap and most safest way is to use a rope :!:

If you look at the picture I would drive down pegs by the brick wall and rope it from there through the hole of the rung and also tie a rope at the top as well.

A ladder must be in a position of 1:4 ( eg: 1m out, 4m up)

This is good for added bonus but still use rope as well!

I've had a product called The Laddermate for 15 years, a lifesaver, it's made from boxed steel and hooks to the inside of your bottom rung, with two splayed out "legs" which prevent any slip. See SKY fitters with them too. Cost me £50 and I know the last time I saw one, it was still the same price. Wouldn't be without it, biggest advantage over having someone at the bottom of the ladder is, it doesn't get fed up and lose concentration.
