I've got a Freelander on a '53' plate and the SRS red light on the dash is on, any ideas?

Supplementary Restraint System has a fault! Either the airbag, pre tensioners or the ECU is faulty, you need to get the faults scanned by a diag tool, could simply be a battery voltage low issue or possibly a pre tensioner.
