Mine is a straight plug which plugs into the left side of my Dell.
To relieve any strain I loop it under the laptop and plug into a socket on my right hand side. If plugging into a socket on your left make sure you are close enough to loop the cable back under the laptop and relieve the strain this way.
One final note, especially to younger people, pull the lead out by gripping the plug head not the cable. This last bit applies to ALL electrical equipment.
