Last UK coal fired power station closes

Maybe now is the time to review an idea from Jacob R-Mugg on how to increase the Uks nuclear energy: "We should get a nuclear submarine to dock at Liverpool and plug it into the grid. That would show people it's safe."

And you thought he didn't have a sense of humor.

What?

He was serious!

This is worth a look every now and again

As I write this about a third of our electricity is being produced by gas turbines

That appears to be the shorter term aim for maintaining the supply levels.

Nuclear seems to be in a bit of a mess. High costs. Time to get a return from the investment figures. Rolls make a nice drawing of compact - the prefabricated idea but don't show any signs of doing it. Them comes a big increase in interest in the use of thorium types. Work on those abandoned a long time ago. One view is uranium offered an easy root to weapons materials so that was favoured.. Seems thorium types are not good at that but 1/2 life of waste is a lot shorter. There is also lots of it around. This type can also easily be made safer. So loads could be spent on other types and be obsolete at some point. Suppose they will still work along with their problems etc. 30 years or so?? Can't remember the time. It may have been extended.

I understand that nuclear stations can hold a number of reactors so output is controllable.

Can't say that I am a solar fan. Maybe solar roofing systems but not frames and bolt on ideas over existing tiles etc. I also doubt if output is consistent throughout the year and over a day.

Is tidal a me too or really significant? I suspect in terms of what it could realistically offer a me too.

Coal. A comment from an ex welsh mining electrician I know. China thanks to an enormous trench that a village moves along from time to time can get quality coal to our docks at less cost than ours to the pit head. Mrs T did a divide and conquor action on our 2 main mining areas. Welsh went first. Then the other.
