Laws

As things stand at the moment, Cameron should remove Laws from the cabinet, whilst Clegg should remove him to the back benches.
But, this is politics and going by past experience, very little will be done.

He was more concerned about being exposed as a homosexual, than he was about fiddling £40.000 quid. No pity for him at all.

or we can look at it objectively, see that he is claiming a lot less (even with this disputed claims) than other MPS in surrounding areas and be happy with that? He is good at his job, lets not cut off our nose to spite our face.

well he did give up a job worth much more in salary than that of a politician. He isn't a career politician but a genuinely smart guy especially when it comes to banking. He went into politics because of his beliefs not for a life of easy money and benefits. The Telegraph were more bothered about outing him as gay more than anything else.
His main problem that his only alternative would have meant he would have to admit to being gay and with a partner which he didn't want to do. Thats his perogative. I think instead of reading what the Telegraph has wrote look into it further. As usual one paper latches onto a story and does everything they can to destroy the character of the person involved all in the name of newspaper sales.
Trouble is now if you mention the words politician and expenses in the same sentence your stuffed no matter what you did.

The issue of sexuality was brought up by Laws himself, more at issue here is the fact that these toe rags(mps that is)are supposed to be cleaning their act up, quite clearly Laws would not have gone to the parliamentary committee if the telegraph had not gotten hold of the story, the Libs have tried to hold themselves up as whiter than white when clearly they are not.He got re-elected on May 6th knowing full well that he was in breach of standards and as such he as mislead the electorate as well as parliament. If he remains in government it will be quite obvious to all concerned that the tories, seeing as they are the majority in the coalition are quite happy to go back to the sleaze days of Hamilton and cash in envelopes.

If a benefit recipient fiddled 40k they'd go to prison. What are they waiting for? It's still public money he's fiddled. He won't last the week out but he won't go to prison.

Well he just resigned his treasury job and admits that he done wrong with reference to his claims.

Good, were back to morality, the days when government ministers actually resigned post haste when caught with there trousers down or there fingers in the till, al la John Profumo

On the other hand, the gay propaganda has managed to get the situation where no one bats an eyelid about him being gay. Half the country are shirtlifters these days and no one cares.

at least he had the good grace and balls to do so. How many times over the last 13 years have we seen ministers wriggling and squirming to hang onto their positions until it becomes either completley untennable or they jut brazen it out. SHouldnt have done it but at least its a refreshing change that he went so quick.

The whole point of it is He fiddled his expenses claims in the full knowledge that he was doing wrong. He knew it was against the rules yet chose to ignore them. This shows he has no scruples whatsoever. Personally, I think the govt should build something akin to a hostel in central London specifically for the use of MP's from the shires. Don't charge them any rent but take away all unnecessary expenses. Expenses should be limited to travel, stationary and perhaps one researcher (not to be a family member). All claims for furniture, food, TV etc should be stopped. After all anyone else who works for a living , can't claim for their own personal goods, food, tv etc

What they want is a block of flats. You get allocated a flat when you become MP, its got all the basics , including TV, internet, carpets, curtains and furniture. You get no payments for supplying your own bits, you pay no rent, its free as long as you are an MP. If you dont want it, feel free to buy your own house in the city, but we wont be reimbursing you for it. Centre Point would be perfect for this use.
