Hi all,

I have a leak in landing coming from upstairs bathroom.

This is worsened and water is noticeable coming down wall more when bathroom taps are on.

I have highlighted the affected area in blue in photos.

My question is what potential type of leak is this ?

And can a plumber access it via taking away part of ceiling /plasterboard and access underneath or would they have to go upstairs and rip tiling /flooring up in bathroom?

Any advice would be welcomed, thank you

Looks like that is waste/soil stack related. Possibly a join to the main stack but impossible to tell with the info given.

Can't answer access question as no idea what access there is upstairs. Potentially access under bath assuming it's in that position.

It looks like an internal stack that is boxed in by the door.

Hi Nitro, thank you for the advice.

Directly above where leak is ,is a toilet and waste pipe,so would make sense.

Not sure as to why water runs down wall when taps are turned on though? Would the waste pipe do that more when taps are turned on from the sink , which is on other side of room?

There is no bath in the room just tiles ,toilet sink and shower.

Depends on how waste from basin is routed.

Take some photos upstairs.

Waste from sink potentially may go to same waste pipe as toilet , and leaks down wall when taps are on.

Doesn't leak when flush toilet.

Have attached more pics of where toilet is and sink.

Leak on underneath ceiling is below toilet.

Waste from toilet is circled in first pic

Basin waste probably runs under the floor to the same location and leaking at join there.

Tiles hopefully won't need to come up as can cut into that boxing in next to the toilet.

So when the taps are turned on , it leaks at join ? Whereas when it comes from the toilet it goes straight out so no leak.Yeah makes sense to be fair.

It isn't boxing in , it is a stud wall, but hopefully can gain access via ceiling below.

Will inform plumber , thanks for the advice Nitro ,much appreciated.

If the toilet doesn't leak when flushed then chances are it will be the basin waste pipe connects to the stack, especially if it's a rubber push fit boss connector. Easy fix once accessed.

Hi madra, just worth mentioning the main spile pipe/stack external one ,is in the other bathroom,or does this not matter? It would still be a waste pipe to stack either way?

Yeah just doing it when taps from basin are on ,not shower or toilet ,so would suggest suggest connection leak to waste.

Thank you all for help! Will let you know how I get on.
